Bournemouth Awarded 48 Points by Casino Advisory Panel
Bournemouth town was awarded a total of 48 points by the Casino Advisory Panel, ranking it 13th out of the 53 venues looking for a large or small casino. The impressive points total leaves Bournemouth in a better position than fellow seaside resorts Brighton, Torbay, Hastings and Scarborough.
With 16 casino licenses up for grabs, Bournemouth now stands a good chance of receiving either their first choice of a license for a large casino or their back up plan of a license for a small one.
The town scored higest - nine out of ten - in the willingness to license' category and lowest - just three out of ten - on the need for regeneration.
"We now need to ensure we continue to support the whole process and make sure we work through the criteria, in particular looking at the community benefits and regeneration needs for Bournemouth, but on the whole a casino will be great news for the economy of the area."
Adrian Fudge, cabinet member for resources, said: "This is definitely positive news. We've already got the backing of the South West Regional Development Agency, as well as key local organizations."
The council believes a casino would create a significant boost to the economy, attracting up to 750,000 visits per year and creating up to 900 jobs.
